A Day In The Life!
I thought it would be fun to consider what was happening ON THE DAY I WAS BORN.
You may consider joining me in thinking about your own birthday and what was happening on that day too. Here is a list of a few things going on in the world when I was born.
US fire raid on Osaka, Japan. US B-29 bombers conducted a fire raid on Osaka killing 4,000 people and destroying 119 factories.
First US hospital crosses the Rhine, the first US hospital to do so during the war.
Liberation of the Bergen-Belson concentration camp. Canadian and British forces liberated the camp freeing 55,000 prisoners.
War plant accident: three men were burned in a processing accident at a New Jersey war plant.
A new play opened on Broadway called Foolish Notions starring Talulah Bankhead.
Franklin D. Roosevelt was still president.
As I reflect on the day I was born, I thought about my own parents. They were very young. World War 2 was still going on and my father was stationed overseas in Germany, so he did not meet me until many months later after the war. My mother was very young and far away from her family. I was born during an uncertain period of time for this country. By next month our President will be dead and our country will be reconstructing itself after a deadly war.
Think about what were the events that shaped you? Try researching your own date of birth. I think you will be surprised by what you find.
